Walking,
birding and excursions at Pachijal.
Here below we list some
of the activities you can do during your stay
at our Eco Resort. Some of them inside the Reserve,
the rest with excursions in the area of Mindo.
There are other things one can do -and it comes
so natural, believe me!- Like relaxing, reading,
writing, meditating, sightseeing and…more. |
NO
CONDUCTED WALKS
You
don’t need to enter the forest to walk,
you can go to the Lloma Grande (High Hill) following
a trail that remains on the border of the trees,
almost all the time.. And once on the top…what
a great place to rest!
You can walk along the road that crosses the Reserve
(is a private road) and even if You aren’t
a birdwatcher the sound and number of birds You’ll
hear and see will astonish You.
If You would like to have a walk in the forest
on Your own You can follow the Small Ring trail
or the Fall one. Here you may have a shower below
the falls or a bath in the natural pool. if You
chose the right moment. And on the way back You
could see the nest of the Cock-of-the-Rock, or
meet hundreds of blooming orchids or bromelias
and much more. The only thing required is…
ears and eyes well opened.
CONDUCTED WALKS
If you are going to stay with us two or three
days, a good basic program could be to have a
daily walk along one of the trails. Sandro, our
local guide, will follow you. He was born here
and knows the Forest quite well.
And if You need something more specific or scientific
we could aggregate a licensed guide, naturalist
or birdwather.
HORSE RIDINGA
Path winds along the Reserve, on the edge of the
wood , with glades , scrubs and breathtaking…
views. You can go alone, in a group with or without
a guide. Our horses are a bit lazy and so You
don’t need to be a professional rider
VISIT AT THE VILLAGE OF MINDO
It could be an interesting way to spend some hours,
expecially if you don’t go there in the
week-end, when the tourist atmosphere sometimes
is a bit too noisy. During the week is better
for me, recalls latin american novels.
You can have a look at the Butterfly Garden, you
can walk along the Mindo River to birdwatch or…simply
watching., perhaps sitting outside a bar.
You can have a Filet cooked on the rock by el
Chef or have a cocktail prepared by the Nomada.
The baker, one of the leaders of the struggle
against oil companies which intended to destroy
the area some years ago, cooks exquisite croissants.
The youngest could do some tubing, they call this
way descending the Mindo River inside a inner
tube…
VISIT AT THE CEREMONIAL SITE OF TULIPE
Tulipe is half of hour by car from our Reserve.
For Yumbos, the people living here before the
arrival of Spaniards and subsequent extinction,
this was a very important Ceremonial site. Actually
Tulipe is managed by the community and a guide
with good knowledge of the history of Yumbos is
available,
One can see Tolas -regular hills which were observing
points and where the Cacique lived- and el Petrogrifo,
a rochy incision. And even go to have a bath below
a nice fall in the forest.
In the village of Las Tola several small shops
selling handcrafts from natural products -seeds,
bamboo, tagua, etc.
VISIT AT THE LEK OF THE COCK-OF-THE-ROCK
At the bottom of this page a photo.
The Lek is the place where, early in the morning,
the males meet to sing and show their beauty to
females. It’s such an old story…
Very interesting but for people that appreciates
to wake up early, 4 o’clock in the morning,
maybe a bit earlier…
